What We Do

Who We Are

About A Burning Fire is the prophetic ministry of Rusty and Sarah Wimberly. Rusty Wimberly  is passionate about raising up followers of Jesus in this generation who are without compromise and live by the revelation of a personal encounter with God.

In 1996, Rusty was taken from a boring, dull Christian background to a full on power encounter with the Holy Spirit in which his body shook under the power of God and he was instantly delivered from a life of anger, violence and immorality. Since then, life has been anything but boring. God’s power has been displayed in Rusty’s life through the power of the prophetic word and boldness to call God’s people toward the plumb-line of His truth. His wife Sarah surrendered her life to Jesus in college and was filled with the Spirit of God shortly after. The Lord has used Sarah in worship as a musician and leader because of her tender heart and passion to see sons and daughters be set free from shackles of rejection, timidity and insecurity.

What We Do

Rusty has been involved in various church plants over the past 13 years and has operated in prophetic ministry since 1998. His style is usually bold, serious and passionate, yet humorous. He also has the ability to be able to adapt in many different ministry situations with various personalities and theological backgrounds.

In August 2009, Rusty founded About A Burning Fire. About A Burning Fire exists as a resource and support to leaders and the rest of the church alike to establish and equip people for ministry. We specifically desire to assist with leadership identification and development and to offer up the prophetic insight and perspective that comes with the prophetic anointing. Rusty is an accomplished author, writer and speaker. He is currently in the process of publishing his first book entitled “The Problem With Church: New Wineskins For A New Generation”.

…Our Mission:

Our Mission is to extend the Kingdom of God first in our local city, second in the Chicagoland region and third internationally. This includes offering salvation, forgiveness of sins, deliverance from bondage, addictions and oppression, healing for mind, body and spirit and the prosperity of the whole individual.

…Our Vision:

Our Vision is broken up into a variety of services that we offer to people. It exists as a practical administration of our mission and mandate that God has deposited within our hearts.

-Prophetic Activation. Having a prophetic gift in your church will help activate others to prophesy simply by having the prophetic mantle present. This is displayed in 1 Sam. 19:20-24. Maybe your church is just exploring the prophetic ministry or you have budding prophets in your congregation who need to go to the next level of ministry. We will come to your church and help stir the prophetic waters and teach on the prophetic to activate prophetic ministry. Contact us for more information.

-Schools of ministry. We hope to host at least 4 prophetic workshops per year. These classes are designed to help bring those beginners into a place of hearing God as well as sharpening advanced prophetic ministers.

-Media. We will produce books that communicate teaching and revelation that will change and influence the lives of believers. We will also produce worship music that will facilitate and help people to turn their hearts to God.

-Helps Ministry. The ministry of helps is not a janitorial ministry. The early church had no buildings to care for. The ministry of helps is a support ministry to pastors, churches and apostolic leaders to encourage them, offer insight and help bring the local churches mission into being. This can be done by bringing us into the life of your local church and over time allow us to help with administration, identifying gifts, planning, strategy and communications. Please contact us to find out more about how our process works.

…Our Values:

  • We value ministry that is Spirit-led, anointed and demonstrated with the power of God. We highlight this so that your confidence would not be in man’s wisdom but in the power of God.
  • We value team ministry. We expect to submit ourselves to and work alongside other servant leaders to help God’s people grow up to the full stature of Christ.
  • We value vibrant, expressive and loud worship. There are times to be reflective and times for shouts of praise.
  • We highly value the final authority of God’s word. It tells us who we are, what is available for us in Christ and our instructions for living.
  • We value the church as a people not a building, organization or business. We find value in buildings in so much as they give us shelter from the elements and serve the needs of the community.
  • We value discipleship. Jesus did not say to “Go into the world and start churches”…Jesus commissioned his followers to “Go and make disciples”. Discipleship is focused on following Christ and imitating godly attributes in others to help us grow up to maturity.
